Suffolk/Essex border, September 11th: set a log fire.
First of the autumn.
Three hour power cut.
It happens.
We don’t get concerned.
Fire, cosy. Power back by 8.30pm.
Country life.

That, after cinema: Jane Eyre, nicely played but, as with all Bronte sisters’ work, very little actually happens.
Very little happens in the Suffolk countryside, it occurs to me, and that’s partly why I like it. Everything happens elsewhere in my life.

Last week, sang a few songs at 25th anniversary celebration concert in Copenhagen, Denmark, for my old friend John Christopher: big, swing band playing haunting horns and reeds on A Friend For Life, John’s choice.
Young guitarist played a most beautiful solo, received ovation, deservedly. Exquisite.
Shop and I flew in, did our job, enjoyed much good company, stayed well and flew back.

It’s a fine life, in spite of the power cuts.
Logs, we have.
