Rebelfreak1, what a night!!! I only wish I could have been there, too. How generous of Steve to acknowledge Ali; she must have been thrilled to pieces. :D Two more concerts coming up and you ALL will probably turn to jelly, lol! :D I'm so glad that Steve listened to his fans regarding the set; I would think he would do nothing else but try to please his concertgoers. Was it a full band concert or an acoustic one?

Say "hi" to Ali for me. I hope you two have a wonderful time at Harrogate. And thanks to The Phantom for taking such good care of her. :)

Cheri

It was nice to meet you yesterday and glad Ana had such a great time. Hope the poster was a nice souvenir as well so you can now possibly put a face to my user name. Agree it was a fabulous evening and everyone had a time to remember. The songs are timeless and the appreciative and knowledgeable crowd really played their part.Only 1 question. How can 2 and a bit hours pass so quickly?

my friend was there, said SH was ON STAGE, playing for two and a half hours!! One hour first set and one and a half the second, and agrees with Sparrow, HOW DID IT PASS SO FAST???
He didn't know one of the encore songs but said it rocked like crazy!
He's seen more shows than me, mnaybe 75, and thought this was the best ever experience in Harley's company, maybe the best night ever with anyone. Wish I'd been there...boo hoo!

Three hours kip following last nights gig, then an eleven hour jaunt around Yorkshire collecting and delivering cars,knackered!...,but here goes...
As I said on original post last night was special, very special.
Arrived in Leamington around 7'15 pm driving along towards the venue and spot me old muckers Mike J and peter JH, strolling down the road, knew those two old buggers would be here.
The Assembly is a cracking venue, high ornate ceilings and a parquet floor, thought to myself the acoustics in this room are going to be good, jeez good is not the word.
Steve and Cockney Rebel strolled on to the stage at a few minutes past eight to a very warm welcome from an expectant crowd,it had filled up nicely from what I could see from my vantage point front and slightly left of the stage, no Lartey sisters tonight, but great to see the familiar figure of Adam Houghton taking his place behind the drum stack...seconds later the opening bars of the nights first masterpiece, which was met with a massive cheer from the gathered ensemble, still wont reveal what it was, cannot spoil things for people with tickets for Wavendon and Harrogate, suffice to say it was the first of many shocks to follow as this magnificent new set thrilled and captivated all present.
Six or so minutes of absolute perfection from the musicians,
then straight in to an old favourite and quite fitting a couple of lines in the song refer to a young lady from a long way away, and standing with us from the same place was Ana,our new friend from the U.S.A.
Next up an old fave made a welcome return to the live set, with Robbie wielding his axe like the true rock God that he is.Great crowd participation on that one and then another in the shape of
Mr.Soft (giving no secrets away here),this is ALWAYS in the live rock sets!
Up next the gentler side of Steves brilliant songwriting kept us mesmerised.OLD SONGS,said our man and boy how he was answering those who dared to criticise recent sets.
Very early seventies classics to the fore,oh how we were all loving this!Moving on and the highlight of the night for myself ,Mike and Pete,a song which we all agreed had not been done live for around 35 years, another classic next and the a major, major shock....Steve brought the house down with a rocking cover,of a fab four classic....f***ing immense, and fitted in to this set perfectly to bring to an end an hour long first half.
Time for a quick pint of something cold and a few photos of the gathered rebelfreaks for Petes website before the band were back up in the lights and another absolute blast from the past, again in seeing hundreds of Rebel concerts over the years this has only been done a handful of times, but you know what? the knowledgeable crowd were word perfect from start to finish, this was getting ridiculous now as Steve launched in to a song that he himself had hinted the band had been rehearsing, suffice to say it was greeted with rapturous applause.A modern classic next highlighting Steves recent songwriting maturity, then step forward Barry Wickens to centre stage...you know what that means...the lad keeps trying, but he WILL get it right one day!!! Another recent song was up next as Steve covered the years and his back catalogue brilliantly, the next song was a special dedication to Ana,from Buffalo,New York, as Steve mentioned her crossing the waves to get here.
That ended the second half of the show, and as we all started the familiar refrain of OH DEAR LOOK WHAT WE DONE TO THE BLUES,BLUES,BLUES, the boys never even left the stage, they were straight back and played a 20 minute four song encore, and unbelievably this still included ANOTHER MAJOR SHOCK,AND THEN ANOTHER BRILLIANT COVER(THINK DYLAN FOLKS,IT ROCKED LIKE F**K !!) the night ended on the usual crescendo of showmanship, crowd singalong, wonderful playing from the band as we sang our hearts out to MAKE ME SMILE....AND I HAVE NOT STOPPED SMILING YET....FORTY YEARS NOW WATCHING THIS GUY PERFORM AND STLL IT GETS BETTER,HOW CAN IT? BUT IT JUST DOES.
PHEW, NEED ANOTHER KIP AFTER THAT,HOPE THIS WAS GOOD READING FOR THOSE WHO CANNOT MAKE IT THIS WEEK.
LOOK AT THE LIVE DATES....I SUGGEST A BIG FAN GATHERING AT MARKET HARBOROUGH IN OCTOBER.BE THERE.
ME AND A FEW GOOD MATES WILL BE.

JIMBO,CHESTERFIELD.
