Stella, thank you for the link; I listened to the whole thing. I absolutely love Roger Daltrey (and the rest of The Who), but I have to say that Steve, Barry and James were the stars of the show with a most beautiful rendition of Sebastian. :)

I was stuck in a basement hotel room in Brighton at half nine last night and in the nick of time remembered TOGWT.
whipped out my trusty HTC android phone which has a cracking FM radio on it,dug deep in my overnight bag and pulled out my fantastic set of Sennheiser pro in ear headphones (never travel without 'em and well worth the extra few quid).
I have heard Sebastian performed live hundreds of times over the last 30 odd years, and own about 20+ different versions on vinyl,cd,vhs, dvd cassette tape etc.
But I must say that LIVE performance last night was IMMENSE and well done to the BBC sound guys, absolute perfection,JUST EFFING STUNNING.
(also enjoyed Frankenstein by the Edgar Winter Group, and Jim Croce performing Leroy Brown...what a show by whispering Bob.
Steve and Bob seem like very good friends, but I distinctly recall on the Whistle Test back then a remark that Bob made at the end of a live performance by Cockney Rebel.....'hmmmm not my cup of tea....' obviously Bob has seen the light over the years. lol.
'i fought a tiger just for the glory, the bloody battle was fierce and was gory, was like a scene from a kipling story, she sucked my blood like shes eating tandoori....'

That Sebastian was truly a masterpiece in trio rock. How do they do it, just the three of them?? And Bob's words after it climaxed in that emormous cresendo: "Beautiful music from Steve Harley". Couldn't have put it better.......But the way, rebelfreak1, my own memory, which could well be faulty!! - of Bob's words on introducing Hideaway in 73 (?) were "not a particular favourite of mine, but..."
He has certainly seen the light since, that is for sure!
Steve, that was a great and modest interview, but a great and PROUD Sebastian. Unforgettable radio mate. Thanx, as you used to say - Jack

I've got the recording from February 74 and Bob says that although he doesn't like their music personally he's in no doubt the band will go on and be a big success. As you said, strange how a kind of friendship has developed. Can Steve enlighten us as to how they've become close friends despite only one Cockney Rebel appearance on OGWT?

Thanks for the link Stella! Just listened to it at the library. Now if only I could hear it with out children screaming at the top of their lungs next to me. What's happened to libraries??

Either, way, it was just fantastic! :woohoo:
