One night I had a dream that Bowie died.
Next day, I saw a headline board outside a newsagents:
"Rock Star Found Dead"...
It was Phil Lynott...

Steve often mentions the day he was telephoned in his Los Angeles hotel room at around 9am by his then American manager, the late Ed Leffler, who broke the news of Marc Bolan's death. Ed had been called by the Managing Director of EMI, the late Bob Mercer, who Steve always considered a freind. He didn't want to break the terrible news to Steve himself from so far away, and with so many other calls to make. Steve and his assistant boarded the first available flight out, cancelling recording dates, and flew home via Boston. They had a two hour stop-over. Steve remembers getting to a phone at Boston airport and calling a mutual friend in the UK to hear details.

The day that Marc Bolan died, I was on my way to school with a couple of friends who were also fans.
We heard the news on a small transistor radio that we listened to as we were walking there.
We turned round and went to my mate's house, his mum was at work, and cried and listened to Marc's music all day.
We must have played 'Cosmic Dancer' twenty times that day.

The following weekend, we travelled to Barnes Common to lay flowers at the tree.

Keep a little Marc in your heart. x

I recall hearing the tragic news about Marc on the wireless(radio) at work and just feeling numb. I went to his funeral in Golders Green, I was one of the many fans that had gathered outside, even caught a glimpse of Steve with Rod Stewart. I then went home and played Broken hearted blues all day. xxx
