What an absolute treat to see Steve Harley and some of the finest musicians I have ever been privileged to encounter (and 2 of whom I haven't encountered since Wembley Empire Pool in 1976 if I don't count seeing JC on Rod Stewart's Blondes Have More Fun Tour). On the subject of musical craft what an inspired addition Mona and Lisa Wagner are as they bring the torch of youth to the seasoned professionals that Mr Harley has surrounded himself with. Bearing in mind I won't spoil surprises for the Surrey soire on Monday, the first half of the gig consisted of a captivating catalogue of songs that kept the audience happy until the main course - an enthusiastic delivery of TBYOOL plus encore. It can be dangerous to attend a gig with high expectations but, for me they were met on every level.
I had a wonderful view, with excellent sound in a venue which is full of provincial coastal charm and one which I will happily revisit in years to come as an alternative to the city. To top it all my son obtained a much-to-be treasured TS Elliot first edition, second impression for a discounted price - which would be a rarity in London. Now it's time to recharge the batteries for Guildford - can't wait. There may still be a few tickets left so if you're able to get along what better way to brighten up a cold Monday in November than enjoy a master at his work on the final date of his tour.
