I feel moved to share my happiness from the concert at Ipswich Regent last night. It was overwhelmingly good. A dynamic, powerful and joyful performance, with so many highlights it would border on churlish to single out any one song for specific mention. Good to see Robbie and Adam in the audience last night too.
Reflecting on this tour, I believe it is one to be celebrated. It's a master stroke by Steve to reassemble the original 'Best Years' band to join with him, Barry and Marty. I feel grateful to have witnessed Duncan, Stuart and Jim together again, delivering those eclectic and eccentric songs with passion, skill and individual expression. And with delight too; it's clear that Steve and the band are having a good time on stage, you feel it.
The inclusion of the Mona Lisa Twins is inspired; they bring terrific voices, talent and stage presence to the concerts and add another dimension to a fine array of songs. Hand in glove, they look so right as members of Cockney Rebel 2015.
We've been treated to many special moments over the past few years; festival performances, intimate acoustic shows, orchestra-backed spectaculars . . . this tour adds to those memories. But it's more than just memories, and it's certainly not nostalgia. It's here and now, live, in the present. Wonderful songs executed by magnificent musicians that make you feel so, well, so alive.
I wouldn't normally seek a quote from Vinnie Jones(!), but on this occasion . . . 'It's been emotional'
