I didn't realise Steve had actually signed up for Phantom! Reading Wikipedia this morning apparently Lloyd Webber changed his mind about the 'rock' feel of the show and went for a more "melodic" performer in Michael Crawford. Fair enough when you see our man can out on top (financially) at the time!

Their loss, our gain.

I guess you have to walk a few blind alleys before you see your true path ahead.
