I was reading in today's diary that Steve grew up in south-east London ; Cockney Rebel, then .
But I was wondering if he had a real cockney accent. Hard to identify for a non english language personn like me.
Does he ?
(I actually think that Peter Doherty speaks/ sings exactly the same way than Steve ; so may be they come from the same place ?).
Maelitta, Steve isn't a true Cockney. A cockney is someone born within the sound of Bow Bells. Steve was born in New Cross, so he is most definitely a Londoner, but not a Cockney. I don't think his accent is typical of South East London, it is nore a general London accent. I hope that makes sense!!!
Oh ! OK, that makes sense.
But still, to my ears, he has a special accent if I compare with other english artists.
Very delightfull accent I must say !
Thanks for your explanations cockneyrebel1 and Ray !
You're welcome Maelitta! Even though I am a Londoner also, I sometimes find it hard to fully understand Steve's vocals when he's singing: He exaggerates words sometimes. But his spoken accent is very clear: He is very well spoken.
