There are many many pop-rock songs which are wonderfully produced and stand the test of time (I can name at least 300). But Make Me Smile is not at the level of talent, atmosphere and genius of most of the other Steve Harley songs, which are absolutely unique, my dear !

Fair enough. We'll have to agree to disagree :)
Fell in love with Judy Teen, bought Psychomodo, saw first concert 1978 Hammersmith, got everything since.

As we say here : "sans la liberté de blâmer, il n'est pas d'eloge flatteur".
In other words : without freedom of criticizing, there is no sincere praise ... ;) (approx translation !).

Well, Maelitta name those tunes! interested to see what your 300 classics would be? I agree with Nelson, it is wonderfully produced and stand the test of time. OK it's no Stairway to Heaven, or Hotel California, but it never was meant to be. It's the one people remember SH/CR by, who arn't ardent Harley fans.
Always goes down well Live :cheer:

Tedious to name they all, but here is a sample of what I call a wonderfully produced and stand the test of time song ... (no order) :

Light My Fire, Doors
Bridge Over Troubled Water, Simon & Garfunkel
Paint It Black, Stones
This Town Ain’t Big Enough for the Both of Us, Sparks
Sunny Afternoon, Kinks
London Calling, Clash
Echoes, Pink Floyd
Sweet Home Alabama, Lynyrd Skynyrd
Smells Like Teen Spirit, Nirvana
Smoke On the Water, Deep Purple
On the Road Again, Canned Heat
A Whiter Shade of Pale, Procol Harum
Walk On the Wild Side, Lou Reed
Good Vibrations, California Dreamin, Sloop John B, Beach Boys
Saviour Machine, David Bowie
Astral Weeks, Van Morrison
Sultans of Swing, Dire Straits
While My Guitar Gently Weeps, A Day in a Life, Norwegian Wood (and more) Beatles
Boys Don’t Cry, Cure
Muscle Museum, Sunburn, Muse
Seven Nation Army, White Stripes
Creep, Radiohead

I never said that Make Me Smile was a bad song, I just said Steve Harley has, most of the time, done 1000 times better than it ...

I, for one, am in total agreement with Maelitta, as "Make Me Smile" is as "pop" a song, that Harley has ever recorded. Which is not to say there is anything bad about it? It's just a song, that when compared to his others, seems to be much less complex and (for lack of a better word) artistic, as the remainder of his catalog. Just because a song is easily remembered by the masses, doesn't make it as creatively adventureous, as songs that don't get as much attention or appeal. The MTTV awards, golden globes, and all those other media productions out there, that supposedly reward the artists for their creativity are all CRAP! When you have a brainwashed-lemmings like power (the media)... controlling what the masses will see and hear and its all that they are exposed too. Of course, all the really interesting and provacative work by the un-exposed to artiste, will always fall to the wayside. Unfortunately, that seems to be the case with Mr. Harley and most other bands out there trying to make their mark.
