I already commented on FB, but in case you check here first, I am so very sorry. 2011 has robbed us both of our parents. It's just so...there's never the right words. I hope your mother left the world in a more peaceful way than my father did. All my affection and you know how to get a hold of me should you need anything at all. I'm here for you man!

Thank you so much, Ana. Yes, she left peacefully. In addition to her other problems, she contracted pneumonia. My brother was with her. She opened her eyes half-way and he whispered into her ear, "I will love you forever." And she took her last breath.

  • Reassuringly expensive.
Cheri, my sympathies are with you. My mother died almost four years ago, my father last summer. I held their hands as they slipped away peacefully. My sisters were also there (we lost our brother in 2004) They say hearing is the last sense to go so as my father was obviously reaching the end we reminded him of happy times at the seaside we'd had together and how much we'd loved him. We sang "Home On The Range" which made him smile (he was not otherwise responsive) and said some prayers because we knew he would have liked that (he was deeply religious).
I guess when parents die, as mine did, in their 80's it's easier to deal with than losing them young but I'd never have believed the gaping hole it's left.
Be strong Cheri and remember the good times.
I'm thinking of you.

Sorry to take so long to reply, but I've been grieving. I think the hardest day was the second day. It's getting better with time, but it will take a long time to get over it; I loved my Mom a lot. I just want to thank AlizarinStag, Stella and The Phantom for your kind wishes.

On a slightly lighter note, I had a friend come to spend two days with me to alleviate my grief and help celebrate my birthday on February 8th. We bought some flowers to plant in my little garden to cheer me up. The reason I am bringing this up is because I am constantly talking about Steve and his music to her. I gave her a CD ("Unplugged"), which I had accidentally bought two of, and made her a music DVD of various songs from his many albums. We also watched one of his DVDs, which she really liked, the "Come Back, All Is Forgiven" one. I am doing my best to spread the word that Steve Harley is "the man." :) I will continue to do so with others, as well. Maybe if we can get some album sales over here, he will do some concerts. Well, I can hope, can't I?

Thanks again, guys, for your kind words.

I really like the song "Saturday Night at the Fair" from "Quality of Mercy", which I bought used as it seems to be sold out. My question is, does Steve ever sing it at his concerts? I cannot find a video of it, except for one which is only a few seconds long. I LOVE the song and would LOVE to see a full-length version of the video. Does anyone have any leads?
